Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
